Essaouira-Mogador, bride of the Atlantic

The Essaouira medina, also called  The sleeping beauty or The pearl of the Atlantic, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that was established in 2001.

The little coastal town of Essaouira is situated 112 miles (180 kilometers) west of Marrakesh and is surrounded by fortifications. Compared to Marrakech and other major Moroccan towns, this one is less touristic, and the locals are nicer and less aggressive when trying to sell you trinkets.

This city is home to one of Morocco’s most significant fishing ports. You may see a human chain of fisherman unloading their morning catch if you get there early enough.

An excellent dining spot

Essaouira is a great place to visit if you enjoy seafood since there are many eateries serving it at extremely low prices. Any beach bar would gladly prepare fish that you purchase straight from the fisherman.

Getting to the Essaouira  :

  • Book a day trip: With Marrakech Vacation Guide , we offer day tours with English-speaking chauffeurs and hotel pickup. (Book Here)
  • Rent a car: Driving in Morocco is not easy and some of the highways are not very well kept. If this is the best option for you, we suggest getting a GPS so as not to get lost.
